The reason you can keep the bow is that the game doesn't check to see if you dropped it anywhere. It only tries to remove it from your inventory, but won't do anything about it if you dropped it. When your inventory is partially cleared after completing childhood, this does not affect weapons, meaning the bow stays in your inventory. General[edit | edit source]
The Magic Childhood Bow is a glitch in Horizon Zero Dawn found by WooDio on the 4th of December 2022. The glitch allows you to carry the childhood bow, simply called "Hunter Bow", over into adult Aloy's inventory and into New Game+. The childhood bow is the only "Common" weapon in the game, and is meant to be lost near the end of the childhood section.
How To Perform[edit | edit source]
In order to get the childhood bow into adulthood, you will need to avoid losing the bow when going to save Teb. This is done by first completing childhood until you have killed the strider. Then, head along the path until you reach the cutscene trigger, make sure to not actually trigger the cutscene. Rost should catch up to you and stand around the cutscene trigger. Now, you will need to climb up the broken airplane. After reaching the top, make your way down and head to the right from facing the wall you are closest to. Make sure to hug the wall in order to not accidentally trigger the cutscene. Move towards the area where you save Teb, and once you are about 85 feet away from Rost, drop the bow on the ground.
You can now head back to Rost and continue the quest as normal. Once you reach Teb, do not speak to him to save him, instead, continue through the area to retrieve your bow. You can now talk to Teb and finish the quest. You now have the childhood bow in your inventory as adult Aloy. There is no risk of losing the bow at this point.

Mechanics[edit | edit source]
The reason you can keep the bow is that the game doesn't check to see if you dropped it anywhere. It only tries to remove it from your inventory, but won't do anything about it if you dropped it. When your inventory is partially cleared after completing childhood, this does not affect weapons, meaning the bow stays in your inventory. You can additionally have the bow float independently of Aloy as an adult by either taking out the bow and attacking with your spear, or by opening the weapon wheel with the bow equipped, and pressing R3 or its equivalent.
Uses[edit | edit source]
Currently, there are no uses for the Magic Childhood Bow glitch in speedruns, but you can use it to kill the machines within the Teb area or for challenge runs.
